Killing Silverfish

Silverfish are a common problem in various areas throughout the world. These small gray insects commonly found outdoors under rocks, logs, wood, and under or anything else that provides a moist and dark. They do, however, find their way into homes. Use the following methods will help in their search for silverfish elimination.

If silverfish are hungry, they will not hang around your home. Silverfish eat foods such as cereals, sugar and flour. These items are usually released when used. When using these products, be aware of any spill (cupboards included) and wipe immediately. This is especially true if you have seen silverfish in their closets.

Silverfish feel comfortable in areas that are between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Infected heating rooms above 80 degrees will drive away silverfish. Simply purchase and use a heater (Electric, oil or kerosene) to heat the rooms, which have demonstrated the presence of silverfish.

Silverfish enter your home through the cracks that are not properly sealed. If you have an infestation, try to locate the room where you see most of them. Look around this room any cracks in the floor and around windows. If you are unsure of where they are most of the time, start with the basement or attic. These two areas are main nesting ground of silverfish. When you have found a crack, fill clear caulk or spray insulation. Spray insulation is recommended due to its expansion properties.

It is possible to create a trap for these animals. You will need a large salad or bowl, press, and flour. Fill the container halfway with water, add enough flour to make the water milky. Make balls of newspaper and dip in mixture of flour and water. Make sure the paper is wet. Squeeze excess water being careful not to completely close the cracks. Place balls in dark places of the affected room. In the morning, meet check balls and silverfish. If silverfish found in any of the ball, open it carefully on the toilet. When the silverfish have fallen into toilet, just flush it away. Silverfish elimination has been achieved.
