Is there a Coming Boom or Bust for Natural Pest Control?

The world is going green. "Green is the color of environmental concern, the momentum leading to advanced technology, the buzzword of social consciousness. Concern for the environment and man's impact on it brings a series of new products market, and pest control is no exception. Environmentally friendly pest control services are growing in popularity, especially in the commercial sector. Even residential eco-savvy consumers are asking about natural alternatives to traditional pesticides, but their ardor cools when it often faced with the% 10 to 20% cost differential treatment and long times, several weeks.

The rise of environmental awareness in the United States, together with the increasingly stringent federal regulations that govern traditional chemical pesticides, seems to be changing pest control industry focus on Integrated Pest Management (MIP). IPM is considered not only safer for the environment, but safer for people, and secondary scavengers, such as owls. Of 378 pest management companies surveyed in 2008 by the magazine Pest Control Technology, two thirds said they were offering some form of IPM.

Instead of lashing pest sites with toxic cocktail of powerful insecticides designed to kill, IPM focuses on prevention techniques, environment friendly designed to keep pests out. While the products of low toxicity, or if not also be used to encourage the pests to pack their bags, elimination and control of efforts are focused on finding and eliminating the causes of infestation: entry points, attractive, shelter or food.

Spraying toxic chemicals are giving way to new, often unconventional, methods of treatment of pests. Some are ultra high technology, such as rapid freezing process Cryonite to eliminate bed bugs. Others, like dogs trained to sniff out bed bugs, seems decidedly low-tech, but use the state of the art methods for achieving results. For example, farmers have used the sensitive noses of dogs to sniff out the pest problem for centuries, but training dogs to sniff out explosives and drugs is a relatively recent phenomenon. Using these same techniques to teach dogs to sniff out termites and bed bugs is considered cutting edge.

Another new technique of pest control is birth control.
